Description
The gold standard method for the diagnosis of tuberculosis is culture of mycobacteria. Due to slow-growing nature of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, it is required to selectively eliminate rapidly growing organisms from samples like sputum, by decontamination and concentration. All classical decontamination and concentration methods require centrifugation. Decomics is an innovative kit that eliminates the need for centrifugation. Special absorbent beads which have pores smaller than bacteria, remove the excess of decontamination and neutralization solutions and thus concentrate the sample. The time required for decontamination and concentration is shortened from 45 to 23 minutes. The pH indicator included in decontamination solution indicates the adjustment of pH properly at the end of the process.
